I discovered toasties as an exchange student in Holland almost 20 years ago. After a long day of sailing or playing hockey, I was grateful for something warm. And, it was a treat. Something you didn’t make at home.
For me, toasties are emblematic of the culture. When you are out and about, you eat a sandwich. A quick, easy sandwich. Two slices of bread and cheese. Not meant to be a meal; just a quick snack to tide you over.
Europeans do not refrigerate their eggs. Most of the world does not refrigerate their eggs, but Americans have put our eggs in the ice box for so long that we forget it’s a matter of preference. Let's chat about why.
